This is the first post for a new blog, self-indulgently entitled Mark Barnes: where conversation begins. I have written for a couple of years at The Results Only Learning blog. As a teacher and author of several education books, I’ve limited my blogging to education-related topics, and it’s time to explore other topics.

Although I certainly won’t abandon education, my intention for this blog is to write daily on a variety of topics that, I hope, will interest a wide audience and spark conversation.

As a former sports writer and author of The League: A New Game, I will hit some sports topics. As an avid reader, I’ll write about books. I may occasionally write about mortgage finance, since I have experience in this area. There are lots of things about politics, celebrities and people that annoy me, so there may be the occasional rants. (Oh, who am I kidding? There will be plenty of rants. Hell, “rants” will have its own label.)

I’ll keep the posts brief, insightful, sometimes humorous and, hopefully, they will always provoke thought and inspire you to comment.
