Do we need to know how people learn?

Does knowing how people learn help you as a teacher or a parent? How often, for example, do we consider how musical or spatial learning might change something we do?
Perhaps we do these things naturally. If not, though, is it possible that contemplating how people learn might impact the lessons you teach?
