Forget testing, homework and grades; give kids books!

What has the most impact on achievement and overall success in academics? The answer is remarkably simple and overwhelmingly supported by research, yet for some inconceivable reason, education leaders have not figured it out. It’s not homework. The answer is books.

That’s right, reading can teach our children, especially the impoverished, most of what they need to be successful in school and in life.
Rather than list dozens of staggering facts and statistics about books, I’ll guide you to this Heart of America Foundation article on the subject of literacy and the impact of reading on our children.
After reviewing this frightening research, please explain to me why reading isn’t the top priority of American education.
